Varian completes Scottish installation

Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems' TrueBeam STx linear accelerator is now in use at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow, U.K., for brain radiosurgery treatments.

In addition to TrueBeam's High Intensity Mode, the first treatment at Glasgow utilized Varian's RapidArc technology for dose delivery to expedite treatment. RapidArc is designed to complete treatment by delivering dose continuously during just one or two rotations of the machine around a patient.

The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre treats more than 7,000 patients each year on 11 Varian medical linear accelerators.
