ECR attendance rises by 5%, breaks 20K

Attendance at this year's European Congress of Radiology (ECR) grew by 5.3% and crossed the 20,000 mark, according to congress organizers.

This year's attendance was 20,120, compared with 19,100 last year. Last year's figures also represented a 5% increase over the year before -- in 2009 the number of attendees was 18,200.

Compare that with the 2010 RSNA's figure, in which attendance grew 2% increase but fell short of the meeting's high-water mark. Official RSNA registration indicated that 58,044 individuals attended the 201 meeting, compared with 56,824 in 2009. However, in 2008 there were 59,181 attendees.

At this year's ECR, 12,024 professional delegates were in attendance, as well as 8,096 industry members. As far as a breakdown of participation by country, Italy outpaced Austria as the country with the most representatives by one person: 1,104 compared to 1,103. New countries represented at this year's congress included Cuba, Fiji, Nigeria, Peru, and Suriname.

The European Society of Radiology circulated other notable figures from this year's ECR:
