By AuntMinnieEurope.com staff writers

September 14, 2010 -- Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, has installed its TrueBeam linear accelerator at VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.

The system was used last week to treat an 80-year-old lung cancer patient, who became the first person in the Netherlands to be treated using TrueBeam. The patient received eight stereotactic body radiosurgery treatments over a two-week period using TrueBeam in combination with Varian's RapidArc technology.

VU University Medical Center has used RapidArc to treat more than 1,000 patients since introducing the technology in 2008.
