Editorial Advisory Board

The AuntMinnieEurope.com editorial advisory board comprises 22 advisers, who have a wide cross-section of special interests and experience levels. They will help to oversee and assist in the direction of AuntMinnieEurope.com's editorial strategy. There will be an annual meeting of this panel. Below is a biographical sketch for each adviser.

Dr. Miraude Adriaensen Dr. Miraude Adriaensen, PhD, radiologist, Atrium Medical Center Parkstad, Heerlen, the Netherlands

Dr. Miraude Adriaensen completed her PhD thesis "Imaging in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex" last year. Her research was conducted at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands and promoted by Dr. Mathias Prokop, PhD, from the department of radiology. In 2008, she was the first Dutch resident in radiology to receive one of the visiting scholarships offered by the European School of Radiology, and she spent three months at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin, focusing on musculoskeletal radiology. In 2010, she received the diploma of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology.

Dr. Corinne Balleyguier Dr. Corinne Balleyguier, radiologist, Institut Gustave Roussy (IGR), Villejuif, France

Since 2002, Dr. Corinne Balleyguier has been chief radiologist of breast and pelvic imaging at IGR, one of Europe's leading cancer hospitals. She is editor in chief of the journal, Imagerie de la Femme, and is section editor of breast imaging at the European Journal of Radiology. She has been a scientific committee member of the French Society of Urogenital imaging since 2003, and helped organize an interventional breast workshop at ECR 2007 and 2008. She was chairman of the urogenital program at ECR 2010 and is a member of the breast subcommittee program for ECR 2012.

Dr. Peter Bannas Dr. Peter Bannas, resident, department of radiology, University Hospital, Hamburg, Germany

Dr. Peter Bannas has worked as a resident in the department of radiology at Hamburg University Hospital since 2007. He is co-editor of hellste-koepfe.de, the home page of the DRG (Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft) for students and residents. He is also the national delegate of radiology trainees for the DRG. His main research interest is molecular imaging approaches to compare conventional monoclonal antibodies with so-called nanobodies for optimization of noninvasive detection of specific cell surface molecules on T cells and lymphomas.

Dr. Elias Brountzos Dr. Elias Brountzos, associate professor of radiology, Athens University

Dr. Elias Brountzos is associate professor of radiology in the second department of radiology at Athens University, and is also head of interventional radiology at Attikon University Hospital in Athens. His areas of special interest include cellular mechanisms of restenosis after PTA and stenting in the peripheral arteries, biosynthetic prosthetic venous valve for venous insufficiency, liver resection and portal vein embolization for residual liver volume augmentation, peripheral stents, and interventional treatment of abdominal and thoracic aneurysms. His additional interests are chemoembolization and radioembolization for the treatment of tumors.

Dr. Arturo Chiti Dr. Arturo Chiti, director, nuclear medicine department, Humanitas Cancer Center, Milan

Dr. Arturo Chiti is a nuclear medicine specialist with particular expertise in diagnostic imaging in oncology. His clinical and research activities are focused on molecular imaging with PET/CT in radiation oncology, multimodality imaging in oncology, therapy response evaluation, and standardization and quality programs for imaging in oncology.



Dr. Matthias Dietzel Dr. Matthias Dietzel, assistant professor of radiology, Friedrich-Schiller-University, Jena, Germany

Dr. Matthias Dietzel's special interests are MRI, oncologic imaging, medical imagining as a prognostic biomarker, and machine learning in radiology. Between 2000 and 2006, he took his medical training at the Friedrich-Schiller-University, University of Zürich, and University of Toronto. In 2007, he became a senior scientist in the research team of Dr. Werner Kaiser at Friedrich-Schiller-University. He is currently taking up a fellowship in neuroradiology at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, under the direction of Dr. A. Dörfler.

Dr. Cristina Fernández Rey Dr. Cristina Fernández Rey, PhD, consultant radiologist, Complejo Hospitalario de Segovia, Segovia, Spain

Dr. Cristina Fernández Rey has been in her current post since February 2012. Previously, she was consultant radiologist at Hospital el Bierzo in León, Spain. She took her medical residency and training in radiology at the Hospital Universitario de Oviedo from 2006 to 2009. Her main interest is neuroradiology, and she was involved in collaboration with the Facultad de Veterinaria at the Universidad de León in research projects that included studies with MRI in animals.

Dr. Richard FitzGerald Dr. Richard FitzGerald, consultant radiologist, Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, U.K.

Dr. Richard FitzGerald was elected a council member of the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) in 2010, and is also a member of the RCR's Faculty of Clinical Radiology Professional Support and Standards Board. He is General Medical Council Radiologist Assessor for Professional Performance Procedures, and has mentored radiologists and other doctors in difficulties over the past 14 years. He is an adviser to the British Medical Association and European Society of Radiology (ESR) on their advocacy on the medical regulatory aspects of the European Union Directive on the application of patient rights in cross-border healthcare.

Dr. Rossano Girometti Dr. Rossano Girometti, researcher and staff radiologist, Institute of Diagnostic Radiology, University Hospital, Udine, Italy

Dr. Rossano Girometti is a researcher and staff radiologist at the Institute of Diagnostic Radiology of the University Hospital of Udine in Italy. He has been a professor at the University of Udine since 2006. His main field of interest is body MRI, with special emphasis on liver, pancreaticobiliary, gastrointestinal, and gynecologic imaging.


Dr. Andrea Laghi Dr. Andrea Laghi, associate professor, department of radiological sciences, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy

Dr. Andrea Laghi is an associate professor of radiology at Sapienza University of Rome and director of the CT and MRI unit at Polo Pontino, Latina, a new university hospital that forms part of Sapienza. He is the chairman of the education committee and a member of the executive committee of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), and is coordinator of ESGAR's CT colonography hands-on workshops. In 2005, he received the Editor's Recognition Award from Radiology.

Dr. Robert Lavayssière Dr. Robert Lavayssière, staff radiologist and CEO, Centre d'Imagerie Paris-Nord, Sarcelles, France

Dr. Robert Lavayssière works at Centre d'Imagerie Paris-Nord, a private imaging center 15 km north of Paris. His main area of special interest is oncology and imaging, particularly breast diseases, chest, and genitourinary neoplasms. He is vice president of the Fédération Nationale des Médecins Radiologues (FNMR, the private practicing radiologists' union), editor in chief of le Médecin Radiologue de France (FNMR's monthly newsletter/magazine), vice president of the cancer screening association PSVO, and president of SFR-Ile de France (French Society of Radiology, for Paris and greater Paris).

Dr. Leo Lawler Dr. Leo Lawler, consultant radiologist, interventional and cross sectional imaging, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin

Before returning to his homeland, Dr. Leo Lawler undertook a vascular and nonvascular interventional radiology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S., in 2004-2005, and was assistant professor of radiology at the Johns Hopkins University in 2006. His main interests are cardiovascular diagnostic imaging, oncologic diagnostic imaging, vascular and oncologic interventional imaging, and audit/safety.

Dr. Christiane Nyhsen Dr. Christiane Nyhsen, consultant radiologist, Sunderland Royal Hospital, U.K.

Dr. Christiane Nyhsen has a keen interest in training and education. As a trainee, she was vice chair of the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) Radiology Trainees Forum and chair of the European Society of Radiology (ESR) Radiology Trainees Forum. She is a college tutor at Sunderland Royal Hospital (coordinating training and assessments for radiology trainees) and an honorary senior lecturer with Newcastle University. Her main clinical interest is ultrasound, and she is currently introducing new services such as contrast-enhanced ultrasound and imaging of bowel pathologies with ultrasound.

Dr. Anagha Parkar Dr. Anagha Parkar, radiologist, Haraldsplass Diakonale Sykehus, Bergen, Norway

Dr. Anagha Parkar has been a staff radiologist at Haraldsplass Diakonale Sykehus since 2008. She was previously a staff radiologist at the Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, having trained there from 2001 to 2006. She is a former president of the ESR's Radiology Trainees Forum. Her main interests are chest, cardiac, musculoskeletal, and emergency radiology.



Dr. Anne Paterson Dr. Annie Paterson, consultant pediatric radiologist, Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, Belfast, U.K.

Dr. Annie Paterson has held her current post since 1999. She completed her medical training at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, University of London, and took a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, U.S. She is pediatric section editor of EuroRad and is an editorial board member of Pediatric Radiology. She is a member of the Scientific Programme Committee of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), and was twice awarded the Constance Thornton Fellowship in Pediatric Radiology by the RCR. She is trust specialty co-ordinator for radiology, and sits on the Trust Education Board and the Board of the Northern Ireland School of Radiology.

Dr. Erik Ranschaert Dr. Erik Ranschaert, radiologist, Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis, 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands

Dr. Erik Ranschaert is a staff radiologist at the Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis teaching hospital in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. His main interests are musculoskeletal, abdominal, and cardiac radiology. He was a co-founder of Eurad Consult, one of Europe's first teleradiology companies, and he also started EUFORA, one of the first discussion groups for radiologists. He is a past chairman of the ECR computer applications subcommittee, and is a member of the Scientific Editorial Board of Insights into Imaging.

Dr. Daniel Reizine Dr. Daniel Reizine, neuroradiologist, l'Hôpital Lariboisière Paris, France

Dr. Daniel Reizine works as a neuroradiologist at l'Hôpital Lariboisiere, part of the Assistance Publique-Hopitaux de Paris (AP-HP) network of public hospitals in Paris. He is a member of AP-HP's central management team responsible for the integrated IT system, and is the group's project manager for PACS. He is also a member of the IT group at La Société Française de Radiologie and a senior consultant for imaging for the French government.


Dr. Peter Rinck Dr. Peter Rinck, PhD, visiting professor of radiology, University of Mons, Belgium

Dr. Peter Rinck, PhD, is maître de conférences and visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Mons-Hainaut in Belgium. From 1987 to 1994, he was a professor of radiology and MR at the University of Trondheim in Norway. Since 1982, he has been chairman of the European MR Forum, and since 2008 he has been president of the council for the Round Table Foundation. He was president of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology from 1985 to 1987 and president of its annual meetings in 1989 and 2002. He is the author of AuntMinnieEurope.com's regular Maverinck column.

Dr. Claudia Schüller-Weidekamm Dr. Claudia Schüller-Weidekamm, associate professor, department of radiology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria

Dr. Claudia Schüller-Weidekamm is section head of functional and morphologic musculoskeletal radiology at the Medical University of Vienna. During her medical studies, she was awarded an Erasmus grant and moved from the Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg, Germany, to the Medical University of Vienna, where she finished her medical residency and training in radiology in 2006. She is an associate professor and has a master of business administration for healthcare services, and is certified for quality management. She also organizes the interdisciplinary musculoskeletal ultrasound course in Vienna.

Dr. Valentin Sinitsyn, PhD Dr. Valentin Sinitsyn, PhD, chair of the radiology department, Federal Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Moscow

Dr. Valentin Sinitsyn, PhD, is the chair of the radiology department at the Federal Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Moscow, the director of the radiology course of the medical faculty at Moscow Lomonosov University, and a pioneer of MRI and CT in Russia. His research interests are concentrated on cardiac imaging, abdominal radiology, contrast media, and computer applications in radiology. He is president of the European Society of Cardiac Radiology (ESCR), first vice president of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), a member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Association of Radiologists, and past president of the Russian National Congress of Radiologists.

Dr. Philippa Tyler Dr. Philippa Tyler, consultant musculoskeletal radiologist, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, U.K.

Dr. Philippa Tyler reports musculoskeletal plain film, CT, and MRI studies. She routinely performs ultrasound-, fluoroscopy-, and CT-guided interventional musculoskeletal procedures, including general diagnostic and therapeutic steroid and local anesthetic injections, arthrograms, facet joint injections, and bone and soft-tissue tumor biopsies. She leads weekly spinal multidisciplinary team meetings at her hospital, and is involved in several research projects, including two new studies about MR-guided focused ultrasound.

Dr. Isabel Vivas Perez Dr. Isabel Vivas Perez, PhD, consultant radiologist, department of radiology, Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain

Dr. Isabel Vivas Perez, PhD, was a tutor of interventional radiology at the Facultad de Medicina at the Universidad de Navarra from 1998 to 2007, and has been a clinical consultant of diagnostic radiology at Clínica Universidad de Navarra since 2005. She defended her doctoral thesis, "Derivación portocava extrahepática por vía percutánea (PEPS) para la descompresión de la hipertensión portal: una alternativa al TIPS," in 2003, and has a special interest in peripheral arterial occlusive disease and lower limb CT angiography.

Dr. Josef Vymazal Dr. Josef Vymazal, PhD, professor, department of radiology, Na Homolce Hospital, Prague

Since 2008, Dr. Josef Vymazal, PhD, has been a professor of radiology at Charles University in Prague, having previously been an associate professor of neurology at the same institution. He is a board member of the Czech Society for Neuroradiology. He is also the neuro section editor for Czech Radiology and a member of the editorial board for Czech and Slovak Neurology and Neurosurgery, as well as the journal Neuroradiology.
