Only four out of seven MRI machines in seven Ghanaian government hospitals are working, causing ongoing disruption and problems for staff and patients, according to a 20 March report in News Ghana.

The hospitals include the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ghana's Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, told the country's parliament. Two hospitals have MRI machines that have not been functional since 2014, he said.

However, there are three functioning MRI machines at three "quasi-government" hospitals, which Agyeman-Manu defined as those "owned by government institutions such as the Bank of Ghana, GCB Bank, Cocobod and the Maritime Authority," News Ghana noted.

The Ghanaian government is planning to increase the number of MRI machines in the country, installing them at six new regional hospitals, according to the report.
